Carry My Story
We are excited to be taking part in the Carry My Story project for the third year.
The project gives pupils' the opportunity to explore their own identities and learn about others. It aims to develop understanding between different communities, encouraging people to understand different ethnic, religious and heritage backgrounds and see beyond these to build strong, sustainable, trusting relationships at a local level. It encourages tolerance and build respect by linking schools together so they can learn from each other. The project allows us to positively promote and teach the children about our British Values and allows us to practice our 5 Rs: respect, relationships, reflection, resilience and responsibility.
As part of the project, we are also linked with a local refugee or asylum seeker. We are tasked with 'carrying' their story and a story from our link school.
Please see the video from the 2021-2022 final event where we shared Hameeda's story and a story from a pupil at Heckmondwike Primary.
Carry my story - 2022-2023
This year we were lucky enough to be partnered with a Ukrainian refugee who lives in Slaithwaite. Natalia and her daughter Amelia visited the school, have attended church alongside us to talk about the project and are now noticed by the children of our school out and about in Slaithwaite. We love to hear updates on how they are both doing and we continue to hold Natalia’s family in our thoughts as the war in Ukraine sadly continues.
You can listen to Natalia's song here...
